A few days ago, the Swiss alphorn player Eliana Burki succumbed to cancer. This has now been announced by her management.
On April 25, 2023, the management of Eliana Burkis addressed the followers on her Instagram account. The message was a very sad one, because the native Swiss died on April 24 at the age of just 39. She succumbed to a malignant brain tumor in her home country. She is survived by her partner, Blas Ulibarri, and two young children.
Eliana Burkis had achieved world fame as an alphorn virtuoso, but was also active as a singer and composer. The Instagram post described her impressive career as follows: “Concert tours have taken Eliana Burki far beyond the European borders. She has performed in the USA, South America and many Asian countries, among other places. In the genres of jazz, classical and world music, she was a sought-after ambassador for the Swiss national instrument.”
“We miss her very much”
The statement by her manager Dirk Mahlstedt goes on to say that it is difficult to find the right words at such a moment. Eliana was “the epitome of friendliness and warmth” and “an extremely positive person”. With her friendly and kind nature, she has always been an inspiration to those around her.
Her bookers Nicole Roten and Barbara Schwitter also commented in the post. They wrote: “With Eliana we are not only losing an exceptional, innovative and cosmopolitan musician in every respect, but above all a friend, a strong, courageous and worldly woman who will remain a great role model for us with her positive energy and attitude to life” and ended their statement with “We miss her very much.”
