– I decided to drop the investigation last week. There are missing pieces. That’s all I can say, says Robert Engstedt, chamber prosecutor at the National Anti-Corruption Unit, to SVT Nyheter Skåne, on Tuesday morning.
Alf Jonssonand one more person was notified of suspicion of bribery. When he was informed of the suspicion, he had to end his employment as regional director in Skåne.
The preliminary investigation was initiated after SVT Nyheter Skåne’s disclosure of a dinner where, among others, Alf Jönsson was invited to a restaurant by the CEO of Vårdinnovation.
“High Threshold”
– When it comes to corruption crimes, it is very difficult to clarify what has actually happened. It is a high threshold to investigate this type of crime, says Chamber prosecutor Robert Engstedt.
Previously, the CEO and two former regional officials were sentenced to several years in prison for bribery and disloyalty to the principal in connection with Region Skåne’s procurement of the Vårdexpressen IT tool.
The verdict was appealed to the Court of Appeal, where negotiations are ongoing.
