The British comedian Murray Melvin, who notably acted in the cinema in The Phantom of the Opera, Barry Lyndonso that the series Torchwood died Friday at the age of 90, announced one of his relatives.

“It is with great sadness that I must announce the passing of Murray Melvin, actor, director and theater archivist,” director and producer Kerry Kyriacos Michael wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

Murray Melvin had, according to him, suffered a fall in December, “from which he had never fully recovered”. He died Friday at St Thomas’ Hospital in London.

A prize in Cannes

The actor was a “wonderful villain” in the skin of Bilis Manger in the series Torchwwodderived from Dr Who praised producer Russel Davies on Instagram.

Born on August 10, 1932 in London, Murray Melvin had played in the film adaptation of Phantom of the Opera (2004) or Barry Lyndon by Stanley Kubrick in 1975, in which he played Reverend Samuel Runt.

He received in 1962 the prize for male interpretation at the Cannes festival for A taste of honey by British director Tony Richardson.
