A firefighter is in the hospital after sustaining injuries during a building collapse that also damaged some cars in Manchester, Connecticut on Wednesday night.
The fire department said they responded to the partial collapse of a building on Thompson Avenue. Crews found that the brick facade of a condominium in the area had fallen off.
The facade appears to have fallen on two or three cars in the parking lot. Authorities said a responding firefighter was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
No one else was injured. The residents were temporarily evacuated, but the building has since been deemed structurally sound and safe for occupancy.
Fire crews believe the collapse occurred spontaneously. It is the third time that a facade collapse has occurred in the building, according to authorities.
The building inspector said they will now require the condo complex to remove the bricks. Apparently, the support of the bricks could be rusty, according to the authorities.
Crews will likely have to remove all brick facade on most buildings in the complex. The incident remains under investigation.
