Call for solidarity: Let's help Sasha Escalante

MIAMI- The community of Miami and South Florida is moved by the critical health situation that Venezuelan journalist Sasha Escalante is going through.

Since May 12, the communicator has been hospitalized in intensive care after being diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, a severe skin reaction caused in her case by the consumption of Amoxicillin.

In addition, the journalist suffers from Mononucleosis, which has further complicated her condition, according to her sister Iruy Escalante in an account she opened on GoFundMe to raise funds to cover medical expenses and support Sasha and her son during this difficult process. .

Sasha’s situation is complex not only in terms of health, but also economically due to her status as a single mother dedicated to raising her minor son.

With several organs compromised and widespread burns due to drug poisoning, his situation is critical, according to the doctors’ opinion.

Although he is conscious, his recovery time is uncertain and will depend on how long it takes to eliminate the cause of the problem, control the pain and minimize complications, his sister explained.

Sasha was transferred to the burn unit at Jackson Memorial in the downtown from Miami, where he receives specialized treatment. However, the severity of his condition and inability to work have quickly depleted his financial resources.

Doctors have estimated that he will remain in intensive care for at least a month or more, placing a significant financial burden on his family.

“Sasha is a renowned journalist and a dedicated mother. Her son needs her more than ever, and we, as a community, can make a difference,” said her sister Iruy.

DIARIO LAS AMÉRICAS calls for solidarity from all those who can contribute, either with a donation or by sharing the campaign to reach more people. Every contribution, no matter how small, adds up in this fight for Sasha’s recovery.

Hispanic communities in Miami have demonstrated on numerous occasions their ability to unite in times of difficulty, and this should be no exception.
