On April 14, most of the major French media relayed the good news: French subscribers to the Canal+ group would benefit from access to films and series from the Apple TV+ streaming platform at no additional cost.
A few weeks later, however, some customers will become disillusioned after reading this article by our colleagues from The Informed. We learn that this offer is ultimately not accessible to all 9.5 million French subscribers to the group. Indeed, only those who have subscribed to offers including the Canal+ channel will be able to benefit from it. These include the Canal+, Canal+ cine series, Canal+ sport, Canal+ friends & family packages.
And that’s anything but a detail. Thus, 3.7 million group subscribers will not be able to benefit from the content of the Apple platform. This is the case for the VOD Canal+ Series service, but also for TV by Canal offered by Free, and CanalSat Panorama.
A limited time offer?
We therefore witnessed a great misunderstanding between the French audiovisual group and the general public. Moreover, its CEO, Maxime Saada, had himself retweeted in rather ambiguous terms, where one could read: “Apple TV+ in Canal+ for all subscribers”.
The imbroglio does not stop there, since the campaign of advertising posters plastered in the metro has caused trouble among some subscribers. It could thus be read that the offer would be limited to one year and that “ Apple TV+ will automatically be removed from your plan ».
This is indeed an error as Canal confirmed to the economic news site: “Apple TV+ is included for our subscribers as long as they have a subscription to the Canal+ channel and is therefore not limited to 12 months. »
Anyway, and for all those who will have the chance to access the contents of the Apple brand’s streaming service, this is still excellent news. Apple TV+ series are indeed very often of excellent quality, even if they do not always benefit from extensive media coverage.
