Canceled flights and weather delays in South Florida

“Airplanes in South Florida on the ground”, was the order of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA, for its acronym in English) after the storms that affected our area on Monday afternoon.

Since after five in the afternoon, no planes have taken off at the Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports, causing chaos among travelers.

María de los Ángeles González, one of the travelers who was stranded at the airport this Monday, assures that it is something very “inconvenient because we all have plans. We ourselves go on a circuit throughout Europe; but if there is nothing to do, the weather is the one that commands”.

“First they told us that the flight was delayed for two and a half hours and then later that it was cancelled,” says Allison Ochoa.

While some like Andrés Villanueva wonder: “Where are we going to sleep? He is not giving us a bedroom or anything. Here we are going to sleep like soldiers, standing up.”

The flight ban was first until 7 p.m., and then it was extended until 8 p.m.

“They tell us, “in an hour”, and when the time comes then they tell us that in another half hour. And after half an hour the same thing. And we are like that. They tell us of course and we accept, but not that they bring us from there here”, reveals Clasisa Franco annoyed.

In addition to the inclement weather, an airline explained another reason to Andrés Villanueva. “There are no pilots. And those who arrived are very tired.”

In the midst of delays and cancellations, there were travelers with better luck like Arianne Oviedo: “I am flying to New York and the flight is still on time. If we have to miss the flight, then I imagine that the airlines would have to give us a refund or exchange.
