Capcom recently pulled the plug on some remakes of resident Evil made by fans of Resident Evil – Code: Veronicaas well as the original Resident Evil, the creators of the remakes said this week.

New versions of games have been in the works for a while now and images of new versions attract attention at times, but that seems to have come to an end now as the announcement was made on social media with an explanation. more detailed closure shared on Discord.

In that explanation, the developers said they were contacted by Capcom and that the owners of the Resident Evil IP had canceled the projects. In the first announcement, the group’s developer and Discord manager Briins briefly said the cancellation was done out of “pure evil,” but a second message shared a day later seemed to provide more context.

The developer said that Capcom had contacted the group and wanted to know more about where the remake creators got things like the 3D models and animations used in the remakes. The developers claim that the first Capcom “very kindly” canceled the remakes at first with a harsher follow-up email from Capcom demanding that the project be canceled and the remake webpage removed.

This cancellation follows another November gameplay reveal, as well as the release of a demo that came out just a week ago. A demo for the new version of Resident Evil has been available for a few months, but an updated version with “many improvements” was in the works this month.

It’s possible that the timing of this demo’s re-release in December is what caught Capcom’s attention now and not at any other time, though that could just be a coincidence.

Newer versions of these Resident Evil games are no more, anyway, save for the demo files that still exist online. The developers said they will keep Discord running and work on their own original games, and users are welcome to stay on the servers for more information on them as information becomes available.

Now, as for licensed Resident Evil games, Capcom’s official Resident Evil 4 remake is coming out on March 24.
