The government wants to encourage the practice of carpooling and offers a subsidy of 100 euros for those who would get started in 2023, both for short and long distance, i.e. 200 euros potentially in total.

Getting into carpooling, one of the good resolutions of the French in 2023? The State wants to boost this practice, going from 900,000 “shared” journeys daily to 3 million. An economic interest, but also an ecological one, with 4.5 million tons of CO2 avoided by reaching this ambitious objective.

Flagship measure of a plan announced in December: a bonus of 100 euros for new practitioners. But both for long and short distance carpooling, so potentially 200 euros in total.

Three trips for the long distance bonus

For the long distance carpooling first of all, with Blablacar as the leader, you have to make three shared journeys (with at least one passenger) of more than 80 km each as a driver. All you have to do is register on the platform and complete these first three trips in three months. If you were already registered before January 1, but you had not yet offered a trip, Blablacar will tell you when you connect if you can benefit from it. There is nothing to do otherwise, once the three journeys have been made, the sum is paid directly into your bank account, within 90 days.

10 home-work journeys

For home-work carpooling, the principle remains quite similar. You have to register on one of the platforms like Klaxit, Karos Where Blablacar Daily, and make 10 home-to-work journeys of less than 80 km, with at least one passenger each time. The first trip triggers the payment of 25 euros (50 euros at Karos) and the following 9 must be completed in less than 3 months to recover the rest of the sum (50 euros for Karos, 75 euros for the others). The sum is paid directly into the driver’s bank account, or in the form of a gift card for Klaxit.

Some subtleties

If you were already registered on an application, you are not eligible for this bonus, even if you register on another platform than the one you were using before January 1st.

“Those who already do it, they already have the benefits of carpooling”, explains Adrien Tahon, France director of Blablacar.

A rather telling example: on a long distance journey, a driver recovers on average 30 euros. In four trips, the carpooling bonus is already exceeded.

Same thing, if you multiply the first registrations, you will only receive one bonus with the identity verification carried out to validate the driver profiles.

On the other hand, if you only practiced long-distance carpooling, you are eligible for the home-work bonus and vice versa.
