The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) released today (27) the InfoGripe Bulletin, which indicates an increase in cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in the country. Of the 27 federative units, 19 show signs of growth in the long term (last 6 weeks until April 15). They are: Acre, Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Rondônia, Roraima, Santa Catarina , Sergipe and Tocantins.

In the analysis by age group, the increase in cases in children is mainly influenced by the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Among adults, the predominance is of covid-19, but Fiocruz highlights the weight of other occurrences caused by influenza A and B viruses. covid-19 and the flu.

The study also indicates that 17 of the 27 capitals show signs of SARS growth in the long-term trend: Aracaju (SE), the pilot plan and surroundings of Brasília (DF), Boa Vista (RR), Campo Grande (MS), Cuiabá ( MT), Fortaleza (CE), João Pessoa (PB), Macapá (AP), Maceió (AL), Natal (RN), Porto Alegre (RS), Porto Velho (RO), Rio Branco (AC), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Salvador (BA), São Luís (MA) and Vitória (ES).

When analyzing the last four epidemiological weeks, the main types of respiratory viruses identified were: Sars-CoV-2/Covid-19 (68.6%), influenza A (12.6%), respiratory syncytial virus (10.9% ) and influenza B (7.9%). Among deaths, the presence of viruses was 9.1% for influenza A, 9.1% for influenza B, 6.9% for RSV and 75.0% for Sars-CoV-2 (covid-19).

Deaths

Fiocruz recorded 2,678 deaths related to SARS cases in 2023. Of these, 1,572 (58.7%) had a positive laboratory result for some respiratory virus, 963 (36.0%) were negative and 67 (2.5%) are still awaiting confirmation . Of the positive results, 85.6% are Sars-CoV-2 (covid-19), 4.5% are RSV, 4.3% are influenza A and 2.9% are influenza B.
