Like the federal government, Mexico City also declared the end of health emergency by Covid-19, reported the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

In a press conference, he explained that both his health cabinet and economic development are meeting to issue the position of the end of this event and that they are even seeking to publish in the Official Gazette of Mexico City.

“We are just seeing with the Health Council of the Ministry of Health. But obviously we are with the declaration of emergency and also the lifting of the emergency at the national level. So, we can say that today the emergency is also lifted in the city,” he said, recalling that the capital was the first state in the country to issue the emergency declaration in 2020 and close non-essential activities.

Sheinbaum Pardo reported that despite the declaration, as a city it will be pending whether or not there is an increase in some type of hospitalization for Covid-19.

“What (yes) remains is the mask in schools, which has to be determined by the Ministry of Public Education, it is really the only measure that remains,” he commented.

For his part, the head of the Secretariat for Economic Development (Sedeco), Fadlala Akabani Hneide, assured that the capital has already managed to overcome the stage of economic recovery, since the rates of job creation and new economic units have increased, in addition to the fact that a historical uptake of Foreign Direct Investment has been achieved.

“We are going to announce the next week or the other several investments, both in Vallejo and in other places in the city, in Reforma as well. The economic activity related to construction is also very good. We are, again in April, the entity that generated the most jobs in the entire Republic, that is, it is going very well”, added the Head of Government.

Akabani Hneide explained that due to this recovery, it is projected that Mexico City, from January to May of this 2023, will reach an economic benefit of 22,902 million pesos in the commercial and service sectors, 4,192 million more than in the same period of 2022.

The triggering events, he stressed, are January 6, Three Kings Day; February 14, Day of Love and Friendship; April 30, Day of the girl and the boy; for the sale of fish and shellfish, “Lent 2023”; Easter week; as well as on May 10, Mother’s Day.
