In his presentation on the night of this Wednesday (4), during the CES 2023, Samsung revealed news that encompasses the connected home and the sustainable use of technology. One of the novelties is the launch of the SmartThings Station hub.

The device makes it possible to automate various actions in the domestic environment, by allowing the creation of routines to reduce energy waste, such as making it easier to turn off lights and appliances.

“Having a smarter home shouldn’t be complicated or expensive. So our goal with SmartThings Station was to create a smart home hub that is simple to use, reliable and expandable. The number of devices in a connected home continues to grow, especially in light of the recent release of the Matter standard. We are proud to play our part in making this exciting technology easier to adopt.”

Configurable through pop-up messages on the Samsung Galaxy cell phone or by integrating devices by reading a QR Code, the hub allows you to connect thermostats, lighting, switches and sockets, for commands by its Smart Button. You can configure actions with one tap, two taps or a long tap.

Among the possibilities is a bedtime routine, such as turning off the lights, closing blinds and lowering the temperature; or even something to turn on the TV and dim the lights if you want a movie night.

SmartThings Station integrates with SmartThings Find to help find lost devices by pressing the Smart Button or tracking a SmartTag or SmartTag Plus; or it can even be used as a wireless charging station with up to 15W of power.

Samsung’s new hub will be launched at first in the United States and South Korea, in black or white, starting in early February 2023. The price has not been disclosed so far, as well as there is no forecast for launch in Brazil.

Short and long term sustainability

The company also showed the concept Calm Technology, for a smooth routine within the connected world of users, created by the company’s DX (Device eXperience) Division. The strategy aims to bring calm within this technological context, so that devices and innovation generate better experiences, as well as collaborate for a more sustainable future use.

“We recognize that our vision is broad. It’s about solving real challenges today and understanding consumers’ future needs and aspirations. It will take time, innovation and cooperation with partners around the world. But we are committed to achieving it and we are urgent to get started.”

Jong Hee Han

Vice President, CEO and Leader of the DX Division of Samsung Electronics

All levels of the company will have sustainability goals, products with innovative design and strategic partnerships. The intention is to have zero net carbon emissions by 2050 in all businesses, with goal achievement by 2030 in the DX Division, in addition to transitioning to 100% renewable energy by 2027 in this area.
