With the ThinkBook 16p Gen 4, you can expand and change the range of functions later and depending on the situation. This is ensured by an expansion interface called Magic Bay on the outside of the lid: there are a number of pogo pins for pluggable modules that are held in place magnetically.

At the start there will be three of them. A video light (24 euros) ensures that you are well illuminated in video conferences. If you want better image quality than that of the webcam integrated in the lid, you can retrofit a better 4K camera (130 euros). It is also rotatable, so you can also use it to film from one direction – or share two streams at the same time in combination with the integrated webcam.

Finally, Lenovo provides an LTE module (100 euros) so that you can go online independently of WLAN hotspots. The LTE extension is much cheaper to implement as a separate module than an internal mobile phone modem and can also be used on any other notebook thanks to the additional USB-C socket.

The ThinkBook 16p Gen 4, weighing 2.1 kilograms, is a powerful mobile computer that contains a 13th generation Core i9 processor and Nvidia’s new mid-range GeForce RTX 4060 graphics chip in the maximum configuration. Lenovo provides up to 16 GB DDR5 memory and two SSDs. Two panel options are provided for the 16-inch screen in 16:10 format: there is a regular 2.5K model (60 Hz, sRGB) and a 3.2K model with mini-LED lighting for top models (120Hz, DCI-P3).

Lenovo wants to sell the ThinkBook 16p Gen 4 in Germany from June at prices starting at 1400 euros (with a weaker processor, 2.5K screen and without an Nvidia GPU). In other regions, the sale of the notebook starts a little earlier, which is why you should be able to find the Magic Bay expansion modules in stores from April.
