The daily news presents selected content under a free license. A lot of content, including short explanatory videos in particular, which the Tagesschau also shows on its social media channels, will henceforth be published under the Creative Commons License CC BY SA made available. The online encyclopedia Wikipedia also benefits from the new regulations and can embed the works of the Tagesschau. Free content of the Tagesschau can be found at this point. Further content under free licenses and the expansion to other educational platforms are planned.

For two years now, the Tagesschau has offered the option of using the content unchanged in the classroom, in presentations or on your own website – provided the author is named. The licenses are now being expanded. The Tagesschau sees this as a further element in fulfilling its public service mandate and contributing to the free formation of opinion in society. With the new license, videos can also be edited and used in excerpts, but this is subject to conditions.

A prerequisite for changes is that these changes to the material are documented and identified. In addition, new works that use content in whole or in part must again be made available under the free license CC BY SA. As before, the Tagesschau must be named as a source under the new conditions.

The free license also allows the videos to be integrated into Wikipedia articles. This should make them accessible to an even larger group of users. The first eight videos are already included, and ARD is already planning further, free content.
