A young policeman, aged 25, committed suicide on Wednesday in his barracks, located in a small town in Cher.

A young gendarme committed suicide on Wednesday evening with her service weapon in her accommodation in the barracks of Saint-Amand-Montrond (Cher), said Thursday the public prosecutor of Bourges Céline Visiedo.

There is no evidence to suggest that the National Gendarmerie is implicated in this gesture, according to the Bourges prosecutor’s office.

A clinical psychologist from the gendarmerie went on site “to discuss with all the soldiers, and in particular those who intervened first”, specified the commander of the Cher gendarmerie group, Olivier Caussanel.

Aged 25, the young woman had been assigned to the post of non-commissioned officer for two years, after having been a voluntary deputy gendarme in Saint-Amand-Montrond.
