Four years after the fire that ravaged the cathedral of Notre-Dame, the spire, destroyed in the flames, will soon be able to pierce the Parisian sky again.
The cathedral of Notre-Dame finally secured, hundreds of companions, craftsmen are at work to rebuild it. Four years to the day after its fire, the stool, the base of the iconic spire, has been installed. The 60-meter high spire, reproduced identically, will only rest on the four corners of the base. The chief architect of Notre-Dame had it tattooed on his arm after the fire. “We saw everything go to ashes, and there, the wood returns to Notre-Dame, he rejoices. This spire will be completed in October.
500 companions mobilized
Imagined by the architect Viollet Le Duc, in the 19th century, this assembly calibrated to the millimeter fascinates the companions of today. “It is an honor to walk in the footsteps of the elders. We rack our brains as much as them I think”, emphasizes Aurélien David-Favier, carpenter. 500 workers work every day on the Notre-Dame site.
