Juarez City.- The El Paso Chihuahuas had to row against the current in the first six innings, managed to tie it at 13 in the seventh round and with four runs in the eighth inning they broke the tie and defeated the Salt Lake Bees 17-13 in the first game of a six-game series, this Tuesday at Southwest University Park.
Brandon Dixon collaborated in the victory of El Paso with two home runs, one of them with three runs in the sixth inning. Jantzen Witte also hit a solo shot in the same sixth inning.
The Chihuahuas trailed four nil after two and a half innings, when in the bottom of the third inning Matthew Batten hit an RBI double to add the first run of the border ninth.
The visiting team added two more runs in the fourth inning to go up 6-1, but the canine team responded with a three-run burst in the bottom of this inning to get within two of the tie.
The Bees showed the power of their stingers again with a four-run rally in the top of the fifth inning, backed by a two-run home run by Jared Oliva.
A fielding error by shortstop David Fletcher allowed Taylor Kohlwey to come home with the fifth for the Chihuahuas in the fifth inning, after Tim Lopes’s wheelie scored and on a wild pitch Brandon Dixon scored to put the hosts within three of tie, 10-7.
The rain of runs continued into the sixth inning as Salt Lake added three more, but in the bottom half of that inning El Paso responded by adding five runs to move within one of evening the score, 13-12. In this inning Witte hit a solo homer and Dixon hit his three-run homer.
A RBI double by Matthew Batten in the fateful seventh inning finally tied the Chihuahuas, who with a four-run run in the eighth inning went up 17-13. In this inning Dixon sent Doña Blanca to the other side of the fence all the way to right field.
This Wednesday, starting at 6:35 pm, the second game of this series will be played at Southwest University Park.
