A child dies after being hit by an NYPD vehicle in Brooklyn.
The incident occurred around 7:50 in the morning at the intersection of Myrtle and North Portland avenues, in the Fort Green sector.
According to authorities, one of the police department’s tow trucks was turning west, and just as it reached that intersection, a mother and her 7-year-old son were trying to cross the street.
That’s when the NYPD van fatally hit the little boy.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and certified the child’s death.
The Head of the Department sent a statement saying “Our hearts go out to the family of the child and his mother.”
