Beijing, May 9 China launched an investigation against the international consulting firm Capvision, which it accuses of “ignoring national security risks” or “transmitting confidential information abroad,” local media reported.

According to state television CCTV, the country’s authorities this week questioned employees of the firm and inspected its offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou and Shenzhen as part of a nationwide campaign aimed at “cleaning up the consulting industry”. .

The media ensures that some firms hire personnel from Chinese government bodies to “provide confidential information to clients abroad.”

In March, the police already detained five employees of the Mintz group and also questioned employees of Bain and Company, one of the leading American consultancies based in the Shanghai metropolis.

According to CCTV, “there are foreign groups that resort to consultancies to obtain confidential information”, in addition to ensuring that the authorities “are going to intensify supervision of the sector to guide it towards a healthy development”.

In April, China passed a reform to its Anti-Spy Law that classifies “cyberattacks against state organs” and “key information infrastructures” as espionage, in addition to including “collaboration with spy organizations and their agents” under the category of espionage.

The director of the Criminal Law Department of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the PNA Standing Committee, Wang Aili, then explained that the reform “adheres to a problem-solving approach” and “broadens” the categories of objects whose theft will be classified as “theft of secrets”.

The reform also added “national security-related documents, data, materials and items for their protection,” Wang said.

Likewise, the amendment clarifies the responsibilities in the “precautions against espionage” that state institutions must have, which must carry out “anti-espionage education” and “effectively increase public alert” against such activities. EFE
