China: This carambola caused the death of 16 people and left 66 injured

In central China’s Hunan province, there was a traffic accident that left at least 16 people dead and 66 injured, according to national media.

The events occurred last Saturday, when on the section of the Xuzhou-Canton highway that goes through the city of Changsha, there were five collisions involving many cars in just 10 minutes, which led to the event reported by the local police.

The authorities’ statement focused on the fact that one of the vehicles caught fire, however the causes that led to this accident are still under investigation.

According to the authorities, among the 66 injured in this incident, who were sent to hospitals, eight are in serious but stable conditions.

Meanwhile, the police are investigating the possible causes of the accident, although everything indicates that it could be due to a lack of visibility and safety due to adverse weather conditions, apart from excessive speed.

According to the China Meteorological System, weeks ago it was warned about the adverse weather conditions that would exist in the country and the population was recommended to take precautions against cold waves.

In the north of the Asian country, the temperatures that were recorded were extreme in the last week of January when the thermometer registered -53°C, being the lowest mark in the history of the geographical area, beating the record of 1969, having a temperature that dropped to 47 degrees.
