The evolution of Gus in the second season of ‘Sweet Tooth’
During the second season of Sweet Tooth, one of the most obvious things is the evolution that Gus has throughout the new episodes. The protagonist of this story goes from facing the world and realizing that he “is not welcome everywhere”, to discovering his origin and his role alongside the other hybrids. And of course Christian Convery is clear about this.
“Gus has grown, he has had to face many obstacles, and in the second season we can see him more sure of himself and confident. He better understands the environment around him and what happens outside. And now, in this season, he will see the pinnacle of what he can achieve and how far he can go.”
“I myself learn a lot when I play a character, as an actor and as a person, and I guess playing Gus, beyond satisfying, has taught me to imagine. Because when you’re about to play a character, you learn something. And that is the best thing Gus has left me, that you can always learn something new”.
Wendy also has more prominence in this new season of ‘Sweet Tooth’
Something we really liked about the second season is that Wendy (the half-human, half-pig hybrid girl) has more prominence. Not only is he reunited with someone very important from his past, she also takes the role of the mother and leader of the remaining hybrid children. Although yes, Naledi Murray is aware that her character’s journey to this point has not been an easy one.
“This whole journey, she’s had to go through a lot of things (referring to Wendy), like growing up in a world that doesn’t accept her, having to face the Last Men. But throughout that and what happened last season, she had her mom the whole time and now she’s on her own with all this hybrid family that she decided to take care of.”
“She really took the next step and has overcome some fears, because she has to be strong for her family and support them in the midst of what they are facing. And when she meets Gus and how open he is to the world, they both become the leaders of the group, as they both fight over the hybrids. So this season you’ll see the journey of the characters, what it means to be family and to be together at all times. But it’s great to see Wendy discover herself.”
The message that ‘Sweet Tooth’ leaves us with its second season
Of course, since it premiered on Netflix, Sweet Tooth is more than just a series in its catalog. We say it because in its first part, This production left us very important messages such as unity and mutual support in difficult times.. But Christian Convery and Naledi Murray believe that in this second season, they will convey something more to the public.
“This message is universal, okay? It’s about family, as Naledi said. Finding your family, your own family and togetherness. And I guess always knowing how to lean on someone and how to ask someone for help is very important. I think that’s one of the methods I would say, you really want to lean on your family, because they’re the most important people and you should always treat them with respect like everyone else.”

“One of the beautiful things about ‘Sweet Tooth’ is that it can have many interpretations and be related to all kinds of topics. Personally, I agree with all the messages that the series has left the public. And I think it’s good to reinforce ideas that sometimes seem lost, like supporting your family and finding your place in the world. I think it’s great that a show that’s geared toward kids or families has messages like these.”
