Christopher Mørch Husby (33) plunged into the limelight as a 19-year-old, when it became known that he was the girlfriend of celebrity stylist Jan Thomas (56). The two married in 2009, and separated in 2015.

Mørch Husby is one of ten participants who will be seen in this year’s Farmen celebrity season.

During her time with her ex-husband, the 33-year-old got to know what it’s like to be a public profile.

– I hated it, he says when he is a guest on Good Evening Norway.

– What did you hate?

– I think I hated everything. The attention… People whispering, pushing… It wasn’t something that I dealt with very well at the time. It was really hard, he says frankly.

Would never do TV again

Since Mørch Husby was only 19 years old when he was thrust into the limelight, he was unable to take in everything that was happening around him. The attention in the media was overwhelming, but it is not until later that he has seen the seriousness.

– It was very different before. Media coverage was more intense. Everything was a little bigger and more extensive.

Mørch Husby says that he learned a lot from that time, and has taken the lessons with him into his adult life. The fact that his private life was published in newspapers, magazines and on TV made the 33-year-old dislike life in the limelight.

– I had no desire to do anything TV or similar again.

When he was asked last year to participate in Camp Kulinaris, a program he had watched every season of, he thought it might be fun. For him, this was a “feel good” programme.

– So I did, and just had the world’s best experience at Camp Kulinaris, says the 33-year-old who got a very impressive second place in the food programme.

Then he realized that he actually loves the TV business.

– It’s fun, there’s something magical about TV, says the 33-year-old.

Separation between work and private life

Despite the fact that everyday life was turned upside down at a young age, he does not regret those years.

– I don’t regret it at all, it has made me who I am today. But today I can be allowed to separate work and private life, and decide for myself. I have the everyday job, then I have the public job.

However, there is one thing the 33-year-old will never go back on, and that is sharing his private life with the public.

– I must be allowed to keep my love life private, he notes.

Mørch Husby does not talk much about his private life in public, nor is it something he wants to do with a possible future girlfriend.

– I would probably have been very careful about sharing a lot of my love life myself. It’s private. I don’t think it is either normal or natural to live out your love life in public.

– Made money at our expense

Another thing that dealt with the private life of Mørch Husby and her ex-husband Jan Thomas was the animation series Fanthomas on VGTV.

The series quickly became popular. Here, the 33-year-old was animated as Fanthomas’ “sidekick”, and parallels were often drawn between the character and his young age.

– It wasn’t something I thought was super cool. It was fun at our expense. Not only that – money was made at our expense.

Mørch Husby is unsure whether the series had been neither made nor approved today.

– If it could be done today? I’m not sure about that. Today I feel, for better or for worse, that we are more easily violated on behalf of ourselves and others. Before, you weren’t allowed to think, think or be critical yourself. So I’m not sure if it would work today.

Surprised by the drama

Despite a turbulent relationship with his time in the limelight, Mørch Husby will once again take part in a reality programme. This time it is the Farm celebrity’s turn.

It was the positive experience with Camp Kulinaris that made him agree, but he admits that he was somewhat naive beforehand.

– I remember telling TV 2 that I wouldn’t be involved if there was a lot of drama, to which they replied that there shouldn’t be. So then I thought: “King, I’m in.” Because all drama is not something I want in my life, says Mørch Husby.

– But then there was drama on day one, and drama on day two, says the 33-year-old, laughing.

Nor was he prepared for the amount of work that had to be done on a farm in 1923.

– We worked an insane amount. I was so tired. I probably wouldn’t have joined if I knew how hard it was, adds the 33-year-old.

Farmen kendis premieres on TV 2 and TV 2 Play on 10 January.
