Since November, several incidents related to the food that was to be served to children in the canteen have been reported. An investigation has been opened by the Toulouse prosecutor’s office to determine how bits of glass and cigarette butts ended up in dishes.

An investigation is underway, led by the Toulouse prosecutor’s office, for “endangering the lives of others” after a complaint filed on January 26 by the mayor of Cornebarrieu, near Toulouse. For several months, reports have been received concerning anomalies in the dishes served in at least two canteens in the region, learned BFMTV.com, confirming information from the The Noon Dispatch.

“Butts in semolina, raw meat when it should have been cooked, moldy cheese, plastic bag strings, bits of plastic, pieces of glass, have been found since November in dishes delivered to two schools: Les Monges and Ambrits”, lists the deputy public prosecutor, Antoine Leroy.

Black spots found on an omelette last Friday were also sent to the laboratory on Tuesday for analysis.

No child ate the offending food

It was when reheating the dishes, just before serving them to the children, that these anomalies were spotted by the municipal agents. Thus, the dishes were thrown away in time and no child ingested these non-edible products. How they got there remains to be seen.

The common point between these schools is a service provider in charge of preparing the menus, putting them in a plastic box and delivering them to the schools, which only have to serve them.

In this case, it is a professional reintegration association “which works at the local level. At this stage, its production has been stopped”, specifies Antoine Leroy. The municipality has since turned to another company specializing in collective catering to supply the schools of Cornebarrieu, specifies The Noon Dispatch.

The investigation, entrusted to the research brigade of the Toulouse-Mirail company, Beauzelle and the hygiene services, is continuing to determine who is responsible in this case.
