Thanks to “Three Musketeers” and “Super Mario Bros”, French theaters are showing unprecedented health since the pandemic.

Monthly cinema attendance exceeded for the first time in April its levels before the health crisis in France, with 19.01 million spectators in theaters, announced the National Center for Cinematography (CNC).

Attendance is up 37.8% compared to April 2022, and 2.7% compared to the 2017-2019 average, according to these figures. Since the beginning of the year, attendance has increased by a total of a third compared to last year but remains down 14% compared to pre-pandemic years.

A plumber and musketeers

This increased attendance is explained in particular by the releases, in April, of two blockbusters. According to the latest figures published by CBO Box-Office, the animated feature film Super Mario Bros, the movies approaching 6 million admissions in France, with one million viewers last week alone.

French side, The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan posted more than 2.7 million admissions in four weeks. Other more modest feature films are also driving the box office upwards. Notably I will always see your facesby Jeanne Herry, which is approaching one million admissions.
