An amendment that the liberals claim is PSD’s created a scandal on Tuesday in the internal group of PNL parliamentarians. The amendment proposed to the Government’s assumption project regarding fiscal measures provides for the elimination of the obligation to join Pillar 2. The PNL parliamentarians protested and told the general secretary of the PNL Lucian Bode that they do not agree and that they will not vote for such a thing.

More precisely, Romanians must opt by the end of this year if they remain with the pension fund chosen for Pillar II, if they do not, they remain insured in the public system.
The PNL parliamentarians protested and told the general secretary of the PNL Lucian Bode that they do not agree and that they will not vote for such a thing.
The amendment proposed by PSD provides:
- Art. 154 paragraph 1 – (1) Persons who joined a pension fund until January 1, 2024 can opt individually, in writing, to remain a participant in the pension fund where they appear in the records until the latest on the 31 March 2024.
- (2) The persons provided for in paragraph (1) and (2) of art. 30 in force on December 31, 2023, who do not express their option to join the pension fund where they are in the records, remain insured in the public pension system.
- (3) The value of the existing personal asset in the account of the participants who did not express their option to remain in the pension fund where it appears in the records, until March 31, 2024 at the latest, remains in the administration of the pension fund.
- (4) Participants in the pension fund who did not express the option according to par. (1), upon fulfilling the legal conditions, he benefits from the rights provided by law corresponding to the personal asset existing in the account.
- (5) The register of participants provided for in art. 34 para. (1) is updated by the records institution after the completion of the specific activities regarding the option provided for in paragraph. (1).
- (6) After expressing the option according to para. (1), participants are obliged to contribute to a pension fund and cannot withdraw from the system of privately managed pension funds during the entire period for which they owe the social security contribution to the public pension system, until the right to private pension is opened.
A list of several amendments was posted by Lucian Bode on the Whatsapp group of PNL parliamentarians for consultation. The amendments being presented by Bode as proposals made by the Coalition parliamentarians.

Following the protests of the PNL parliamentarians, Lucian Bode announced that he would further convey to the leaders of the Coalition that the amendment would not be supported by the PNL.
Parliamentary sources told HotNews.ro that PSD would withdraw the respective amendment. At this time there is a meeting of the Coalition at the Government where they discuss the centralized amendments.
