City Comptroller Runs for Mayor

Mayor Eric Adams is facing a challenge for mayor from his own comptroller.

Brad Lander announced he will run for the city’s highest office.

Lander posted this campaign video on Tuesday morning.

He’s been exploring the possibility of running for mayor for months, but today the Democrat officially announced his 2025 candidacy.

Lander was first elected to the city council in 2009.

He represented Brooklyn there until he was elected comptroller in 2021.

He has opposed the mayor on many issues, particularly the city’s spending on the immigration crisis.

He has also strongly opposed the suspension of the state’s congestion charge.
