The General Director of Civil Protection, Luis Alonso Amaya, reported that, from the first minutes after the earthquake, the entire National System was deployed in the municipalities of San Lorenzo and Ahuachapán to provide timely care to the Salvadoran population.
“We have set up three temporary shelters, these centers have all the necessary services and resources so that they can shelter, just as we did in the winter season, we are setting up shelters that can have everything necessary so that all people can shelter and have a a place that gives them security”commented the director Luis Alonso Amaya.
In their preliminary report, the authorities report 50 homes affected in the Tahuapa canton; in the Río Frío canton, six houses; In the canton of La Danta, 50 homes were damaged, all from the municipality of Ahuachapán. While, in the municipality of San Lorenzo, six affected homes were registered.
Similarly, at the General Fabio Morán Educational Complex in the Las Chinamas canton of Ahuachapán, the collapse of a wall was reported, which was quickly attended to by teams from the National Civil Protection System.
“So far there is no single indication that there are people trapped. While it is true that there are damaged homes, the structural damage has not been as critical. We have evacuated some people. The priorities in the first 24 hours are search, rescue and evacuation. The President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, is very attentive to the entire situation that is developing in the municipalities of San Lorenzo and Ahuachapán, and has issued orders to support these communities and the people who have been affectedAmaya announced.
Faced with this situation, the Government called on the entire population of the municipalities of San Lorenzo and Ahuachapán to attend to all the recommendations made by the institutions of the National Civil Protection System, since, if necessary, shelters have been set up to guarantee the safety of Salvadoran families.
