Delays on the Dovre line due to a power cut meant that the train stood still at Otta for several hours last night.

– We waited over six hours, says Mia Nyland (18) on the phone from the train.

The error has now been corrected – and Mia’s class is now on its way to Oslo.

A large group from the sports class at Mosjøen upper secondary school cannot catch their flight to Lanzarote.

– It’s incredibly hard. We were trapped inside a train for several hours. We should have been on our way to sun and warmth, says Mia to TV 2.

Total money for three years

For three years, the class of 26 has collected money for a training camp in Lanzarote, which is one of the seven largest islands in the Canary Islands.

– We were really looking forward to being in a team, getting even better together and experiencing so many exciting things together. Many of us applied for sports subjects for this trip, says Jan Fredrik Saue.

The class had collected NOK 300,000 for the trip.

– This shows how unfair it can be from time to time. We try to keep our spirits up, but this was undoubtedly a blow for all of us, he says.

Train stop – strict routines

It was a northbound night train that tore off the contact wire at Otta station at 03:00.

Bane Nor press officer Olav Nordli tells TV 2.

According to Bane Nor, train traffic was opened again at 09.15.

– It is regrettable when this kind of thing happens, and this type of error occurs, he says.

– When in this case there was a contact line fall, there are strict routines that the passengers must remain on the train until the system has been grounded, so that you are absolutely sure that there is no power going astray when you get off the train, says Nordli.

Going back to Mosjøen

Mia had been looking forward to surfing and several other active activities. And the gang was going to enjoy the sun and warmth.

– It is, of course, a big downturn. A memory for life that goes down the drain. It is very painful, and one would really like to hope that the airline could wait a bit until we managed to get to Gardemoen, says Jan Fredrik.

Mia and Jan Fredrik say the class has been in contact with Norwegian, but say the airline could not do anything.

– We will probably turn around as soon as we arrive in Oslo. It’s very awkward, says Mia to TV 2.
