MIAMI.- The Assembly of the Cuban Resistance (ARC) announced this Wednesday the holding of a seminar and breakfast on May 18 to commemorate Cuban Independence Day, scheduled for the 20th of the same month.
The event, which will take place at the Big Five Club in Miami from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, aims to bring together political leaders, activists and members of the Cuban community to reflect on the fight for freedom and democracy in Cuba.
Cuban-American Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar will be the keynote speaker at the event, and is expected to address the current situation in Cuba and the importance of international solidarity to achieve freedom for the Cuban people.
The event program also includes an invocation by Father José Espino, the interpretation of the national anthems of the United States and Cuba, and welcome remarks by Orlando Gutiérrez Boronat and Richard Heredia, executive members of the ARC.
Likewise, the seminar will feature the participation of prominent panelists who will discuss topics such as the historical importance of May 20, 1902, the fight for freedom and independence in Ukraine, and Taiwan’s experience as a beacon of democracy in Asia.
Special recognitions will be given to Salvadoran artist and political leader David Trejo, former political prisoner and commander of Brigade 2506 Ricardo Montero Duque, and political prisoner Ernesto Borges, who will receive the Pedro Luis Boitel Freedom Award.
The event will conclude with a cultural tribute by artists El Funky and Kamankola, among others.
The ARC hopes that this event will serve to raise funds to support Cuba’s fight for freedom and to raise awareness in the international community about the importance of democracy and human rights on the island.
To do this, interested parties can purchase a special voucher whose amount will be allocated to organizations that work to return democracy to Cuba, both from outside and inside the island.
