Rewe wants to set up more pick-up stations for online purchases in inner cities, especially in Berlin and Cologne. That reports the “Food Newspaper” (LZ). The food retailer already operates 1,700 such stations. They are usually directly connected to a supermarket. According to the report, Rewe wants to invest more in collection machines that work independently of existing markets in the future.

There are only ten such machines in Germany. They are supplied by the Rewe delivery service from the central logistics centers. With “Click and Collect”, consumers shop online and then pick up the goods themselves. The concept combines stationary trade with online business.

The goal, Rewe told the LZ, is to bring the service “even further into the inner cities”. There is not always enough space for a complete market with a pick-up counter. This is why pick-up stations should be set up, for example, in residential and parking lots, at office locations, petrol stations or park & ride stations. (cmk)
