The climate protection group “Last Generation” received a total of 891,832.61 euros in donations last year. This emerges from a transparency report published by the climate activists on their website.

The report also breaks down the group’s spending. The “last generation” spent by far the most money on rental costs in 2022: a total of 254,170.43 euros. The money went into accommodation that the group rents for supporters who have no relatives in Berlin, but also into event rooms and rental cars. Material costs – for example for superglue, warning vests or seat cushions – followed in second place, amounting to 98,167.28 euros.

The legal costs of the “last generation” amounted to a total of 17,733.02 euros last year. By January 6, 2023, the Berlin public prosecutor’s office alone had had a total of 1,100 cases on the table regarding the ongoing protest actions by climate activists. According to the administration of justice, 25 demonstrators have been convicted by the Tiergarten district court – mostly for coercion and resistance to law enforcement officials.

Anti-burnout seminars and press training

The “Last Generation” spent 11,226.1 euros on “Further Education and Resilience”. According to the information, this included anti-burnout seminars, “emotional processing rooms” and press training.

The “last generation” also received 10,000 euros as a loan in 2022. In addition, there are subsidies from the Climate Emergency Fund (CEF) of around 50,000 euros. However, the activists emphasize that this money does not go directly to the “Last Generation”, but that the initiative “Non-profit educational work to support the Last Generation” receives the funding as part of the change alliance.

That “Change Alliance – General Association for Social-Ecological Change eV” is an association made up of various actors, initiatives and NGOs at federal level.

The initiative invests the money in cooperation with the “last generation” in educational work “in the sense of the charitable purpose of the change alliance” – for example in climate lectures. The initiative also hires people for this. In addition, there is also the financing of 41 people who were employed by the change alliance for the initiative, “so that they can continue to pay their rent during their voluntary commitment to climate education.”
