Jörg Kachelmann, journalist and entrepreneur, and Rudolf Schrefl, managing director of Drei Österreich, were guests on Tuesday at “Vorarlberg LIVE”.
The pilot project for local, precise weather information and severe weather warnings by the mobile phone company Drei and Jörg Kachelmann’s company Meteologix was also a topic in Vorarlberg LIVE. “This is the first weather station of hopefully 50 that we are doing in the country,” confirms Drei-CEO Rudolf Schrefl. The ambition is to expand this from Vorarlberg to the whole of Austria in order to be able to generate and offer precise local weather information. The necessary basis for this is provided by such weather stations, emphasizes Kachelmann.
“The radar does not look behind in the valleys”
The local, but permanently installed measuring stations will gain in importance simply because of the increasing number of extreme weather events. “It is important, especially in these changed times, that we become even more local,” confirms Kachelmann. “The radar doesn’t look back into the valleys,” he emphasizes in view of Vorarlberg’s topography. Precipitation in particular will be a weather phenomenon that will occupy Vorarlberg and Europe much more in the future than has been the case up to now. On the one hand when it falls, but also storing it for periods of drought.

However, this also means that the snow line is constantly moving upwards. Snow is in sight for at least the next few days, but tourism will have to adapt to these temperature conditions. The artificial snow in particular reacts sensitively to the temperatures. “We will have less snow over time,” assures Kachelmann.
