Former President Mauricio Macri questioned in harsh terms the national government’s decision not to abide by the Court’s ruling that ordered the restitution of funds to the City of Buenos Aires. “There is no precedent in Argentine history of such serious ignorance of another state power,” said the opposition leader.

“The sentences are not discussed, they are fulfilled,” the former president continued in a thread of tweets. And he warned: “The disobedience of a sentence of the Supreme Court would destroy the legal continuity of the Nation and would expose us to anarchy.”

This Wednesday, the Supreme Court upheld a precautionary measure formulated by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires in the conflict over the removal of 1.2% of co-participating funds, ordered in September 2020 by President Alberto Fernández to transfer them to the Province of Buenos Aires in the midst of the police revolt that occurred in the midst of the pandemic, and ordered to hand over 2.95% of the mass of co-participating taxes.

The City and the rest of Together for Change welcomed this resolution. However, a day later, after a meeting between the Head of State and PJ governors, the Executive decided not to abide by the ruling, considering it of “impossible fulfillment”.

In another tweet, former President Macri recalled that during the first weeks of his administration, the Court issued a million-dollar ruling for co-participation. “I didn’t look for excuses, much less embarked the country on an institutional crisis,” he said. “We trust in Justice,” he completed.
