Thanks to the always timely Christopher Dring Of Games Industrylet’s get to know some details on the sales data in Europe for the month of December 2022. And as revealed by the well-known analyst, it was “a difficult month for games in terms of sales”, with only a few exceptions.
Dring reveals that last December only fifa 23, Call of Duty Modern Warfare II And Pokémon Scarlet and Violet managed to post strong commercial results, doing even better than their respective previous iterations (FIFA 22, COD Vanguard And Pokémon Shining Diamond and Shining Pearl) in December 2021. All the other games, including top productions, instead struggled to establish themselves in Europe in the last month of 2022. Even two evergreens like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe And GTA V recorded lower sales than in the 2021 Christmas period, while Just Dance 2023 And F1 22 they scored lower than their predecessors.
As for the games released last December, Dring highlights unsatisfactory commercial performance: only Need For Speed Unbound entered the Top 20 of the best-sellers (placing precisely in eleventh position), while Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion And The Callisto Protocol they placed twenty-first and twenty-second respectively; finally did not arrive Marvel’s Midnight Sunsalthough the analyst does not specify in detail the sales results recorded by the strategic Firaxis.
COD Modern Warfare 2 was the best-selling game of 2022 in the USA, reconfirming the series again activision as a certainty of the gaming landscape. Meanwhile, FIFA 23 is once again at the top of UK sales and looks set to record great results for a long time to come.
