NoOn the day of her 15th birthday, Francisca Tarujo received the best present ever: attending a concert by the British band, of which she says she is a “super fan”.

“It’s my birthday. Kika”, reads a poster I brought from Espinho, hoping to hear Chris Martin sing happy birthday to her.

Dressed formally, with a black sequined top and sparkles pasted over her blue eyes, she decided to come “glittery, because Coldplay is just glitter”, she joked.

The smile is wide today, but the mother, Joana Balono, recalled her daughter’s tears of disappointment, after not being able to buy tickets, after several hours in a queue, early in the morning.

“We managed to buy tickets later and we came at two. Each ticket cost 230 euros”, he revealed, adding that the arrival in Coimbra, during the morning, was peaceful, having easily managed to park in one of the identified parks.

A few meters from Estádio Cidade de Coimbra, the Lusa agency also found a family of four — the parents and two daughters — all of them wearing the same white t-shirt alluding to Coldplay.

“They are my number one band”, shot José de Rodrigues, who paid close to 900 euros to bring his family from Viseu to Coimbra.

The holidays will be “more measured”, but “it’s well worth it”, he stressed, remembering the whole night that his youngest daughter spent in a queue to secure the entrance tickets.

The madness for the British band brought a group of eight Spaniards to Coimbra, who said they “love Portugal and the Portuguese”, which meant that they had already spent their holidays in the country “30 to 40 times”.

The group was supposed to be 12, but four ended up not being able to come and “sold their tickets very easily”.

“Some came to stay two days, others five. We stayed overnight in Cantanhede, because in Coimbra it was very expensive and so we paid 70 euros per person”, said Sérgio Martinez.

They reached the surroundings of the stadium by taxi and lunch was a kind of picnic, leaving for the following days a visit to the University of Coimbra, Aveiro and Porto, before returning to A Coruña.

When there are still a few hours left for the British band to take the stage, the fans gather and warm up to their voices.

Guarding the first places are five teenagers, family members and friends from Coimbra and Aveiro, who tried to tune their voices by repeating some lyrics from Coldplay songs.

“We don’t know all the lyrics, but it’s going to be a lot of fun”, they assured.

Born in Gouveia, Miguel Rebelo will see Chris Martin and company’s band for the third time, which he heard for the first time 23 years ago, in Paredes de Coura.

“I met the band by chance, when they were illustrious unknowns and I loved it. That’s why I ended up going to see them at Dragão in 2012 and I’m here today”, he justified.

And when they return to Portugal, “I’ll be in the front row again”.

The Estádio Cidade de Coimbra hosts today, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, the band led by Chris Martin, which will bring together more than 200 thousand people in the four scheduled concerts.

The passage through the city of Coimbra marks the beginning of the world tour of the band “Music of the Spheres”, which follows through Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and Holland, in addition to shows in the United Kingdom (in Manchester and Cardiff).
