The American actor received an honorary Palme d’Or from the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday. He confides his emotion to BFMTV and looks back on his career as an actor and producer.

Michael Douglas, honored Tuesday in Cannes, told BFMTV his emotion to receive a Palme d’or d’honneur for his entire career.

“I was very touched by this honor, really. I found out about it less than a week ago. It meant a lot to me. I realize that I don’t do a lot of publicity, outside of the promotion of the films. And we sometimes feel a little forgotten. And so I thank Thierry and the festival”.

He also talked about his career as an actor and producer. A rich double career crowned with two Oscars.

The shadow of his father

“It’s my acting career that I’m most proud of, because I had to succeed my father and my father’s career,” he says. “Winning a Best Actor Oscar for Wall Street allowed me to step out of my father’s shadow and give me confidence,” he says.

“My father went from extreme poverty to movie star. When I was born, he was already an actor, so I didn’t take as big a step as him. But in reality, it’s much more difficult to to be the second generation.
