The problem of the stadiums is already installed in Chilean soccer. Many teams have to see their venues altered due to remodeling, use for other events, or simply due to the poor condition of the field. For the same, for example, Santa Laura will close until March and will not be able to receive Unión Española, Universidad de Chile or Universidad Católica.

Faced with such a situation, the teams must travel hundreds of kilometers to receive their commitments for the National Championship and, due to this scenario, the idea of leasing the Monumental Stadium arose. Although the answer was initially negative, Alfredo Stöhwing himself opened up to this possibility during a press conference given at the presentation of Matías de los Santos.

Curicó Unido will be local at the Monumental Stadium

The drawbacks mentioned above are not the only ones when it comes to fixing a home game. In Copa Libertadores, sports venues must meet a series of conditions that affect some teams in our country and, therefore, they must resort to renting other arenas.

It is the case of Curicó Unido, a cast that must play phase 2 of the continental tournament and that will travel to Santiago to be a local at the Monumental Stadium against Cerro Porteñoas confirmed by Conmebol itself.

The reason for the curicanos to use the Ruca is quite simple. The governing body of continental football dictates a series of requirements so that a sports venue can host an international duel and, one of them, is the distance that it must have from the nearest international airport. The number of kilometers between La Granja (where the set of cakes is located) and the air terminal in the capital is approximately 200 kilometers, while with Concepción, the distance increases to almost 300 km.., numbers that exceed 150 kms. requested by the authority.

At the moment, the agreement between the curicanos and albos is for the match they will have to play against the Paraguayans this February 21 at 9:00 p.m. However, if they qualify for the next round, the formula could be repeated and, with everything, if Curicó advances to the group stage, the cast of Banda Sangre could request the Macul coliseum again, since Conmebol requests stadiums with a minimum capacity of 10,000 spectators and the Maule Region venue has a capacity of approximately 8,000 people.
