The National Government issued a statement in which it congratulated Ecuador for holding the presidential elections on August 20.
“The Government of the Republic of Colombia congratulates the brother people of Ecuador for the development of today’s electoral day, in the midst of a democratic and peaceful spirit”said the Foreign Ministry.

“Colombia reiterates its solidarity with the Ecuadorian people and its desire to continue working with the brother country in favor of strengthening democracy, peace and development in the region”they added.

the applicant Luisa Gonzalezdolphin of former socialist president Rafael Correa (2007-2017), will face surprise Daniel Noboason of one of the richest men in Ecuador.

Both were proclaimed winners of the elections on Sunday, in which they have obtained 33% and 24% of the votes respectively, after scrutiny of 98% of the minutes on Monday.
