The foolish time is slowly heading towards the finale. Schools should also be able to celebrate carnival, but simply canceling school hours is not possible. This means that the lessons should also be held as completely as possible on Shrove Tuesday, according to the Education Directorate to ORF Vorarlberg.

From a legal point of view, children up to the ninth grade are subject to care. So the timetable must also be adhered to during carnival, even if it’s a little more relaxed on Shrove Tuesday and you can celebrate carnival with the children. Sending the children home earlier is not allowed.
It is also possible to move the afternoon classes. This must then be made up for on another day, according to the specifications of the Education Directorate. Another option would be to sacrifice a school-autonomous day for Shrove Tuesday. In principle, it is important to the education department that parents are informed early on if there are changes to the regular timetable, the education department told ORF Vorarlberg.
Carnival guilds for a free afternoon
The carnival guilds are also noticing that schools can no longer take things as casually as they used to. In some places, the schools would still be visited by the carnival guilds on Shrove Tuesday. However, the fact that the school day is automatically ended is no longer common, Barbara Lässer from the Vorarlberger Fastnazünften is quoted on ORF Vorarlberg as saying. In principle, however, it is to be welcomed if children have the opportunity to visit the carnival parades with their parents in the afternoon, says Lässer.
