Conmebol will formalize the joint candidacy of Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay as venues for the 2030 World Cup tomorrow at 12 at the AFA grounds, in Ezeiza.

The South American football entity will hold a press conference in which the president of the AFA, Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia; the head of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez; the Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Nation, Matías Lammens; and authorities from the Uruguayan Football Association, the Paraguayan Football Association and the Chilean Football Federation.

After Argentina’s conquest of the most precious trophy of all, the Conmebol headline argued: “The 2030 World Cup is not one more, it deserves a celebration with recognition for 100 years,” the Paraguayan leader said then, who considered that it should be played in “Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay and Chile”.

In this sense, he expects “a gesture of greatness” to assign the headquarters to the place of origin of the World Cup, above other interests. “We must recognize that what is today the World Cup began in South America in 1930,” he recalled.

The definition of the headquarters will take place at the 74th FIFA Congress to be held in 2024, two years before the 23rd edition of the competition in the United States-Mexico-Canada.

The South American countries will have to compete with Spain and Portugal, which recently also expressed the intention of adding Ukraine to their candidacy. While the third alternative, still without official confirmation, could be set up between Greece, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
