Duisburg/Dusseldorf.
The railway is renewing its rails in the north of Düsseldorf. Numerous trains are canceled on the route to Duisburg. Commuters need to know that.

From this Friday evening (9 p.m.) commuters between Düsseldorf and Duisburg have to be prepared for restrictions for three weeks: Among other things, at Düsseldorf Airport, due to construction work by Deutsche Bahn, significantly fewer trains will stop until January 27 (9 p.m.). Some regional trains from the north end in the Ruhr area and do not go to Düsseldorf as usual. In long-distance traffic, however, there should be no restrictions.

In the three weeks of construction, around eight kilometers of track between Düsseldorf Central Station and the Derendorf S-Bahn station would be renewed, the railway said. 7,000 tons of gravel and 10,800 sleepers are to be replaced. The route had to be partially closed for this.

New tracks between Duisburg and Düsseldorf: many lines affected

In detail:

  • The line RE2 (Osnabrück-Düsseldorf) ends during the construction work at Düsseldorf Airport, trains do not continue to Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof.
  • The lines RE3 (Hamm-Düsseldorf) ends in Duisburg and does not go to Düsseldorf.
  • Of the RE6 (Minden-Cologne) will be diverted directly from Duisburg to Neuss with a few exceptions – this will eliminate the stops at Düsseldorf Airport, the main train station and in Bilk.
  • Of the RE11 (Kassel-Düsseldorf) ends in Essen.
  • Of the RE19 (Düsseldorf-Arnhem) does not stop at Düsseldorf Airport.
  • The S-Bahn line S1 (Solingen-Dortmund) does not stop at the Wehrhahn, Zoo and Derendorf stations in Düsseldorf.

The long-distance trains, on the other hand, run as normal. The normal timetable also applies to the regional trains RE1 (Hamm-Aachen) and RE5 (Wesel-Koblenz) as well as to the S-Bahn S11 (Bergisch Gladbach-Düsseldorf Airport) and S6 (Düsseldorf via Ratingen to Essen).

Anyone who would normally have taken a train affected by the construction work should switch to one of these connections. The railway advised to use the online connection information. The changes have already been incorporated there. (dpa)
