Due to the expansion of the A 43, the railway line between Herne and Recklinghausen has to be closed. Buses are used instead of trains.

Due to the six-lane expansion of the Autobahn A 43 by Autobahn GmbH, a new railway bridge is being built. Therefore, the railway line between Castrop-Rauxel and Recklinghausen Hbf will be closed on the nights of Friday, 6./7. January, 9 p.m., to 12./13. January, 12.30 a.m., as well as on the nights of 20./21. January, 9 p.m., to 9./10. February, 1 a.m., closed between Herne and Recklinghausen Hbf. This is reported by Deutsche Bahn.

During the full closure, the catenary will be switched off in these areas in order to create new installation areas for catenary masts and then set new catenary masts. Due to the full closure, the S 2 will be replaced by buses between Castrop-Rauxel or Herne and Recklinghausen Hbf during this time.
