Eight students from different schools in Mexico ended up intoxicated with clonazepam after carrying out a dangerous viral TikTok challenge.

The cases became known in the last few hours and, according to what the investigators reported, five of them would have occurred on Thursday at the Francisco I. Maderos school, in Mexico City, while the rest in another establishment in the state of Nuevo León, the Juventino Rosas school.

The adolescents would have ingested the drug within their respective schools and had to be assisted by health personnel. Fortunately they are all out of danger.

“The last one to sleep wins”

The dangerous viral challenge, called “The last one to fall asleep, wins”, consists of consuming several clonazepam pills and not letting yourself be overcome by the sleepiness produced by the anxiolytic that is usually indicated to control seizures, panic attacks, cases of anxiety and induces sleep.

As specified by the AFP agency, this practice is very popular among the youngest and videos abound in social networks performing this dangerous challenge.

The Ministry of Public Security of Mexico City said in a statement that the minors were treated at the school itself by paramedics who confirmed their poisoning “due to the consumption of a controlled medication.”

Meanwhile, in Nuevo León the students were able to withdraw without major complications. “We found out about these three cases and the support of the Municipality was requested,” said Alma Rosa Marroquín, local Health Secretary, at a press conference, adding: “Unfortunately, the challenges that are disseminated through the networks often put people’s health is at risk.”
