The mother, who adopted her son in Ethiopia, says she has found a welcoming environment at school. In contrast to her son’s previous experiences at six other schools in Denver, this mother notes that her son has thrived at Mcauliffe International School. The mother comments that here her son has felt treated as an equal student, without being isolated or singled out for coming from another country.
The mother also denies the descriptions of the supposed confinement room, stating that her son has told her that this space has pillows, a punching bag and is sometimes even used for therapeutic purposes, such as the presence of a therapy dog.
In tune with this perspective, a group of parents and center workers have begun collecting signatures in support of the former school principal, Kurt Dennis, who was recently fired. So far, they have managed to gather more than 6,000 signatures in an effort to keep their position at the Mcauliffe International School.
