Indeed, today, Sunday January 8, 2023, the Court of Algiers pronounced the sentence amounting to a 4-year prison term, including two and a half years, against the former Minister of Culture Khalida Toumi, in the corruption case, in which she is involved

In addition, the same judicial body also pronounced a two-year prison sentence against the former inspector general of the same ministry, the accused Abdelhamid Ben Blidia. The two defendants were prosecuted for abuse of power, grant of undue privileges and waste of public funds. The facts occurred when she was at the head of the cultural sector.

In addition, it should be noted that on December 25, 2022, the prosecutor had requested a 5-year prison sentence against the two accused.

Khalida Toumi on bail since July 2022

On July 6, the former Minister of Culture was sentenced to 4 years in prison by the Court of Algiers, but the latter had benefited during the same month from a provisional release.

Khalida Toumi, former Minister of Culture at the time of the late President Bouteflika, was released on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. A release comes following the appeal in cassation lodged by her defense with the Supreme Court.
