A hunter is on trial this Friday for shooting at a car in 2021, seriously injuring a passenger. He admitted the facts and explained that he had not seen the vehicle.

A hunter was appearing this Friday before the criminal court of Ajaccio (Corse-du-Sud), for having shot a woman in September 2021, reports The Parisian. The victim, injured in the shoulder, collarbone and ribs, still has after-effects a year and a half after the accident and has still not been able to resume her work as a hairdresser, explains the daily.

At the time of the shooting, Brigitte was in the back of a car, her husband driving. Two of their relatives were also in the vehicle, driving in southern Corsica. They explain having seen the hunter, “he was kneeling at the edge of the road, with his back to the forest, carrying a rifle at hip level, ready to shoot”, says the husband, Jean-François.

They then hear an explosion. The shot makes a hole in the windshield and hits Brigitte in the shoulder. Jean-François said he, at that time, saw a wild boar cross behind the vehicle, which was not hit.

Prohibition of shooting in the direction of the roads

The emergency services are called and the shooter, who has been hunting for 40 years, immediately recognizes the facts, explaining that he did not see the car arrive. It is however clearly enacted in the rules of the National Hunting Federation that “game should not be shot in the direction of houses and roads”.

The man, tested, was not alcoholic at the time of the events.

For the victim’s lawyer, “this story should serve as a lesson in general, hunters have the right to hunt, but they are above all a minority and the majority is entitled to walk around without taking any risks. “.

In an attempt to alleviate this type of serious accident, the number of which is decreasing but which still claim victims, the government launched in January a “Hunting Safety Plan” with the objective of “moving towards zero accidents”.
