This reminder campaign will run from April 27 to June 16 and will mainly be aimed at people over 80, immunocompromised people or even residents of nursing homes.

The last dates back to October. The new Covid-19 booster vaccination campaign for those most at risk will begin this Thursday, the Ministry announced on Tuesday. General Directorate of Health (DGS).

This campaign, which will run from April 27 to June 16, will be aimed in particular at people aged 80 and over, immunocompromised people, residents of nursing homes and long-term care units, as well as people with very high risk of serious forms of the disease.

Vaccination “necessary” for the most fragile

The vaccination of these people “remains necessary” in the face of the still “active” circulation of Covid-19 and the “insufficient level of vaccine reminders”, according to the DGS. It also indicates that if the booster vaccination is no longer recommended for the public not targeted by this campaign, anyone who wishes to receive a dose “will be able to benefit from it free of charge.”

With this new campaign, the DGS intends “to maintain a sufficient level of vaccine protection in order to reduce the occurrence of serious forms of Covid-19, and the risk of hospitalization and death”, even if the surveillance indicators for the virus “remain at very low levels” in recent weeks.

The time to be observed between each injection is a minimum of six months, “regardless of the patient’s situation”, she specifies. These vaccination reminders can be done directly in nursing homes, in healthcare structures, in pharmacies or even with doctors and nurses.

A new campaign in the fall

In six months, a new vaccination campaign will be organized “on the model of influenza vaccination”.

“In anticipation of circulation of Covid-19 over the autumn-winter period, taking into account the reduction in vaccine protection over time as well as the additional protection provided by a booster dose, a booster campaign will be organized. next fall-winter, at the same time as the anti-influenza campaign”, announces the DGS.

The institution also indicates that the High Authority for Health no longer recommends primary vaccination to people who are not at risk of serious forms, even if it will remain possible for anyone expressing the request.
