Workers clashed with police in a covid test factory in chinaaccording to a video broadcast on social networks on Sunday, at a time when the Asian giant seeks to exit its strict zero-covid policy.
Images geolocated by AFP in an industrial area of the city of chongqing They show people throwing boxes at a group of uniformed men, hinting at what appear to be covid test kits.
In another sequence, a crowd can be seen in front of a line of police officers, at night. Warnings to “cease illegal activities” are heard on the loudspeakers.
The man who shared the video indicated in the message that numerous employees had not been paid.
According to other publications, the company zybio pharmaceuticalbased in Chongqing, reportedly suddenly laid off workers who had been hired in recent weeks.
For now, Zybio, contacted by AFP, declined to comment. Neither did the local police service.
“All the demands of the workers are of an economic nature,” a man claiming to be a “Marxist-Leninist-Maoist” said in a video, insisting there was no political motive.
The AFP could not determine the precise moment when the videos were recorded but, according to witnesses on social networks, the clashes took place on the night of Saturday to Sunday.
