Burglars and other criminals apparently held back over the holidays: According to the West Police Department, there were only a few theft and burglary offenses in Potsdam and the surrounding area. One case occurred shortly before the store closed on Christmas Eve: around noon, four men entered a mobile phone shop on Dortustrasse. A criminal distracted the seller, his accomplices stole a total of four mobile phones with a total value of 1000 euros. The criminal police are investigating.

Boat engine sawed off

A theft that occurred between December 24th and 25th on the Lustgartenwall in the historic city center was a bit more unusual: the thieves initially gained unauthorized access to the premises of a fishing club. There they sawed off the outboard motor of an adjacent boat. According to the injured party, the damage is over 10,000 euros.

A kiosk owner in the Brandenburg suburb was lucky in misfortune: two men had tried to break into the kiosk on Sunday night, but were observed by a witness. The burglars fled the scene before police arrived. The police secured evidence, including video footage, and filed a complaint.

The homecoming for a man from Kleinmachnow (Potsdam-Mittelmark) was less gratifying. On Monday night, he found that strangers had pried open the patio door of his family home and stolen jewelry and cash.

All in all, from the police point of view, it was a quiet holiday season: “The situation was pleasantly manageable,” a spokesman for PD West told the PNN. However, the number of burglary offenses on public holidays has already fallen noticeably in the past.
