The Algerian Football Federation has finally honored the referee trio Mustapha Ghorbal, Mokrane Gourari and Abdelhak Etchiali. A special tribute was paid to the latter who announced his retirement after the Qatari World Cup.
Algeria was, of course, the big absentee from the Qatar-2022 World Cup. But our country was represented by the three referees Mustapha Ghorbal, Abdelhak Etchiali and Mokrane Gourari.
The three referees had a very good and remarkable run. Indeed, they were designated in two matches of the group stage. These are Netherlands-Ecuador and Australia-Denmark. As for Ghorbal, he was appointed in Japan-Croatia and Croatia-Brazil, respectively in the 1/4 and 1/8 finals, but as a fourth referee.
It must be said that the Algerian refereeing trio was not congratulated by the Algerian football federation. It was only the day before yesterday, on the sidelines of the monthly meeting of the federal bureau, that the FAF finally honored him.

A special tribute to Etchiali
As everyone knows, assistant referee Abdelhak Etchiali made an important decision just after the end of the World Cup. Indeed, he announced his retirement. A referee who has three World Cups to his credit (2014, 2018 and 2022) and who leaves his post after 10 years of loyal service. Thus, a special tribute was paid to him by the federal office of the FAF.
